If your Surface is:
- Locked up and not responding
- Won't Turn On
- Acting strange or something is not working correctly
- Mouse or keyboard is not responding
- You receive the message "Unspecified Error"
- You have tried all the other suggested troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue
It may be time to do a hard reset on the Surface.
A hard reset will cause your Surface to reboot so be sure to save your work.
Surface Pro Hard Reset
Press and hold down the power button and the volume up button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button followed by the volume up button.
Surface Laptop Hard Reset
Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.
