If you can't see one or more of your external monitors, click here One or more of my external monitors are blank while connected to my Surface.
This problem occurs when your monitors are not arranged in Windows to match how they are arranged in “real life” (on your desk). You will see the problem when you move your mouse from one monitor to another and it doesn’t move as you would expect. For example. Your mouse cursor is on one of your external monitors and you move it to the left or right, expecting it to appear on the next monitor (or your Surface screen) it pops up on your Surface or the other external monitor on the OPPOSITE side. Perform these steps to correct your monitor orientation.
- Right-click over your desktop…anywhere is fine. A menu will appear, select Display settings
-
You’ll see a representation of your Surface screen and one or more external monitors that are attached to your docking station or directly to the Surface. Each box represents a monitor. If the monitors aren’t arranged correctly, when you move your mouse to the left or right between monitors, you won’t see the desired result (the mouse will disappear from one monitor but not appear on the one directly to the left or right as you would expect). To correct this, simply click on a box and drag it to the correct location. Click the Identify button and a number will temporarily appear in the lower left of each monitor so you know which physical monitor is which. Make sure the monitor boxes on the screen are arranged the same way the numbers appear on the screens.
- After you rearrange the monitors, you may see some flickering or adjusting take place while Windows reorients things. When everything settles down, make sure you can move your mouse from the far left or far right screen/monitor across all the other monitors and the mouse behaves as you would expect. If it still doesn’t, click the Identify button again to make sure the boxes on the screen reflect how your Surface and external monitor area actually arranged.
